During the production of telephone cables, data cables, mini coax cables and high frequency cables the analysis and supervision of the cable capacitance is of special interest. In addition, the value of the structural return loss (SRL) derived from the FFT analysis of the capacitance values is an extremely important parameter.

For the first time a capacitance measurement device is presented, which offers a capacitance measurement with highest precision, all digital analysis of short time capacitance variations, extremely fast updates of measured values as well as bare wire detection: CAPACITANCE 2000.

Multizone electrode
The capacitance measuring tubes are available with single and multizone electrode. The multizone design is unique and fascinating- the measuring tube is split in 2 active zones, and the capacitance values of each zone are processed by a dual-channel receiver. This arrangement provides both highest precision measurements as well as monitoring of short periodical variations that are the source of coaxial capacitance attenuation. Technically we must keep in mind the fact that the measured capacitance value is an average of individual measurements over the cable length within the measuring tube. For precise measurements this tube must be as long as possible, however for structural return loss analysis a short electrode provides benefits of being able to see the short periodic variations which provide us the best window of analysis at the highest operational frequencies.

SIKORA has solved this requirement for two measuring techniques by implementing both a long and a short electrode into a combined measuring tube. This patented* arrangement provides both the highest precision and SRL prediction up to 8 GHz. The combination system offers two solutions in one, providing the combined solution where ones alternative is to purchase two individual systems to provide the same information.

Detection of periodical capacitance variations using Fast Fourier Transformation analysis (FFT) and prediction of structural return loss (SRL) are special features, processed directly at the measuring tube and accessible via a diagnosis interface with a PC or notebook.

For the indication of the measured values the REMOTE 2000 is available. For visualization, statistics, trending and protocol funtions, the powerful ECOCONTROL series with 15“ resp. 8.4" TFT-monitor and touch screen operation are a perfect system solution.
