SIKORA measurement and control devices:
Added economic value

SIKORA – with its headquarters in Bremen, Germany has for three decades developed a reputation as a global leader in the supply and support of excellent measuring, controlling and testing equipment for the wire, cable, plastics and rubber industry. In 1972, Harald Sikora presented the first non-contact measuring systems for energy cables. These products became the platform guiding the company to become a world-wide leader in the field of measuring technology. With 168 employees world-wide and a consolidated turnover of 31 million euros in 2008 SIKORA represents an innovative and superior technology venture that enjoys excellent international reputation.

Our success story
The company’s success story started in the early 1970s when Harald Sikora developed a non-contact position sensor, the so called "sag control" for CV lines. This specific technology enables to sense the position of cable inside the CV-tube where power cables are cured on a non-contact basis. The innovative product gained immediate success and became the standard system for CV-lines. Even today the sensor is known as “the SIKORA” around the world. 1973 Harald Sikora founded the one-man company HARALD SIKORA in Bremen.

Some years later SIKORA made use of early CCD linear sensors (similar to todays sensors used for digital cameras) for diameter measurement. Although this technology was relatively unknown at that time it offered the basis for reliable repeatable measurements by looking at the diameter of a wire or cable during production. 1979 the one-man company HARALD SIKORA was introduced into SIKORA INDUSTRIEELEKTRONIK GmbH.

In the early 1990s SIKORA once again provided unique solutions to the cable industry. The first X-RAY 8000 was delivered, measuring the wall thickness of multilayered medium-, high- and extra high voltage cables directly after the extruder crosshead in a CV-tube of up to 200m length. Due to its high quality, precision and reliability in the application the X-RAY 8000 satisfied all customer demands and rapidly became an industrial standard. Most recently, SIKORA took the success of the X-RAY 8000 to the next generation in the X-RAY 2000 system designed for wire and cable jacketing and insulating lines. This system has met the industry’s need for a precise measuring of wall thickness not yet seen with alternative technologies.

On September 12th, 2002 the company evolved into SIKORA AG stock company. Since then the medium-sized company has expanded rapidly and has set up local regional offices in China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and USA. These offices, working in conjunction with more than 30 regional representative agencies ensure global customer support.

Our mission
Our mission is to offer a measurement and control technology most convenient to the customer’s and market’s demands. The SIKORA product line is specifically developed for the energy, communication, automotive, building and optical fiber industry. In 2003 SIKORA also gained ground in the hose and tube sector where SIKORA benefits from its extensive measuring experience in the wire and cable industry. Our company complies with the latest Quality Management System requirements in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 that ensures highest product quality and customer satisfaction.

SIKORA measuring system are saving more than 1.5 million barrels of crude oil per year
Crude oil is an irreplaceable resource not only for the wire and cable industry, but as well for the hose and tube production. This oil is mainly used in plastics for cable insulation respectively as starting point for the production of plastic tubes. Every micrometer of wall thickness, which can be saved by using measurement and control technology, is therefore not only preserving the steadily diminishing resources. It is also raising the efficiency of the production.

Thanks to the precision of SIKORA online measurement and control systems, suppliers can reduce the wall thickness of the tube, hose or cable insulation to the nominal value. The use of material wasting wall thickness buffer to compensate a missing precision measurement is no longer necessary. In this way customers are saving approximately 1.5 million barrels of crude oil using SIKORA laser and X-ray measurement technology. This equals the freight of 4 very large crude carriers. For this reason SIKORA contributes to "Green Technology". Today, only efficient material consumption and optimum production systems can offer a chance to sustain and raise competitiveness. Moreover, a diligent handling with our resources will be of importance independent from future crude oil pricing.

Our basis
Our success is based on experience gained in manufacturing on-line cable measuring systems and research and development providing a continuous improvement of our technology. SIKORA constantly invests in future developments and spends 10% of its annual turnover for research & development to remain on a highly competitive level. Our committed employees in the different functional areas stand for a tradition of know-how, innovation, market leadership and profitability.

Depend on SIKORA and experience perfection in measurement devices!
