Measurement of the wall thickness, eccentricity, diameter and ovality of single and multi layer products

In insulating and jacketing lines where cables get an insulation or an outer jacket the X-ray measuring system X-RAY 6000 PRO continuously ensures to meet the required cable specifications regarding diameter and wall thickness. The measuring system includes an X-ray gauge head from the X-RAY 6000 PRO series and the 22“ display and control processor system ECOCONTROL 6000. The monitor is arranged in vertical format and shows simultaneously all measuring values numerically as well as graphically and also trend and statistic data. The operation is via touchscreen.

The field of application extends to single or double layer insulations as they are common in the jacketing area.

The measuring head is installed between two cooling troughs or after the cooling trough depending on specification and measures the insulation wall thickness of the single material layers as well as the position of the conductor in the insulation. The conductor has to be absolutely concentric in the insulation in order to assure the mechanical and electrical function of the cable as well as to reduce material consumption to a minimum.

Directly with the online measurement all measuring values for the wall thickness, eccentricity, outer diameter and ovality are accessible at the processor system ECOCONTROL 6000. The eccentricity measuring values are displayed at 8 points and allow the operator to optimally center the extrusion tool and to control the wall thickness or diameter precisely to the nominal value. The values are numerically or graphically displayed as cable cross section.

Using an X-RAY 6000 PRO as hot measuring head after the extruder respectively after a first cooling section, provides the possibility of a quick centering and automatic control of the line speed or the extruder rpm. With the additional installation of a diameter gauge head after the cooling trough in combination with a hot-cold control is the shrinkage considered.

The X-RAY 6000 PRO is equipped with XLL-(eXtra-Long-Life) X-ray tubes for highest reliability and life cycle and offers a selectable measuring rate from 1 to 3 Hz (optional 10, 25, 100 Hz).

X-RAY 6000 BASIC for single layer products
With the X-RAY 6000 BASIC manufacturers of single layer products get a powerful and simultaneously cost-efficient alternative to the X-RAY 6000 PRO. The BASIC-device is equipped with an integrated monitor for measured value display including analysis software.

X-RAY 6020 for ultra small products
The X-RAY 6020 is suitable for applications with ultra small diameters, such as tight buffered fibers or medical tubes like catheters, cannulas, oxygen or suction tubes. The heart of the technology is the development of new proprietary X-ray tubes, which permits the orientation of the X-ray beam for analysis of small diameters and wall thicknesses, enabling SIKORA to break the barriers that previously limited these ultra small measurements.

X-RAY 6070 TRIAX for triple-axis measurement
The X-RAY 6070 TRIAX is especially focussed on the requirements at the production of composite tubes. It continuously measures the wall thickness and ovality at 6 points and detects non-conformities at the product surface and in the inner tube at the same time. With a measuring rate of 100 Hz, even the smallest blisters can reliably be detected.
