X-ray technology for flat cable extrusion lines
Over the last years a new type of cable, known as FFC (Flexible Flat Cable), has been established in the automotive industry. These cables are of comparably light weight, can be converted automatically and occupy smallest space in the car.
The conductors of the FFC consist of rolled flat wires, which are isolated in an extrusion or laminator process.
For traditional round automotive wires on-line quality control is of essential importance. The same applies to the FFC that demands for example the determination of the pitch between the conductors or the measurement of the insulation wall thickness.
SIKORA accepted the challenge to develop a measuring system for this specific application. Since then, many X-ray systems have been delivered and successfully installed in various production lines.
